In a bid to understand the intricate management and operational processes behind one of the most pivotal projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), a group of students from the Department of Commerce and Management Sciences University of Gwadar led by Saghir Naseem, visited the Gwadar Port today. The visit, organized as an educational trip, provided students with an invaluable opportunity to study the port’s infrastructure, logistics, and governance models firsthand. The experience was designed to offer insights that can inform future large-scale development, trade, and integration initiatives.

The visit began with a tour of the operational area, where students observed the installation of cranes and were given a comprehensive overview of the core operations. Students witnessed the complexities of ship docking procedures and cargo handling processes, followed by a guided exploration of the port’s warehouses and Roll-on/Roll-off (RORO) facilities. This section of the visit provided students with practical exposure to the logistics involved in port operations and the efficiency strategies employed within this significant international trade hub.

Following the operational tour, the students proceeded to the Port Head’s office, where they had the opportunity to explore the administrative and finance floors. In the conference room, they were welcomed by the Director General (DG) of Operations and Finance, who presented a detailed overview of the port’s history, organizational hierarchy, and key operational processes. The DG elaborated on the integration of various departments and their roles in ensuring smooth, effective day-to-day operations. This session offered students valuable insights into the governance and management frameworks that underpin the port’s success.

The tour culminated with a visit to the China Business Center (CBC), where Director General Munir Ahmed Bana showcased a detailed model of the entire CPEC project. This presentation highlighted the strategic significance of CPEC and its role in fostering regional economic integration. Additionally, the DG provided comprehensive information on the future infrastructure developments planned for Gwadar, emphasizing initiatives that aim to boost the port’s capacity and support long-term growth within the CPEC framework.

This educational visit was an enriching experience for the students of the University of Gwadar, equipping them with a deeper understanding of the complexities involved in managing a large-scale project like Gwadar Port. The insights gained from this visit are expected to contribute significantly to their academic and professional growth, enabling them to apply this knowledge in their future endeavors.
