A delegation of Vice Chancellors from various public sector universities in Balochistan, led by Honourable Minister of Education Madam Rahilla Hameed Durrani, met with Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmed, Chairman of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), to address the financial crisis impacting universities in the region.
The delegation included Prof. Dr. Khalid Hafeez, Vice Chancellor of Balochistan University of Information Technology, Engineering and Management Sciences (BUITEMS); Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Vice Chancellor of the University of Gwadar (UG); Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ahmed Bazi, Acting Vice Chancellor of the University of Balochistan (UOB); Prof. Dr. Jan Muhammad, Vice Chancellor of the University of Turbat (UOT); and Prof. Dr. Maqsood Ahmed, Vice Chancellor of Balochistan University of Engineering and Technology Khuzdar (BUETK).
During the meeting, the delegation informed the Chairman of the financial constraints affecting the universities, which impede their ability to deliver quality education and meet operational needs. The Vice Chancellor of the University of Gwadar highlighted the progress on the construction of the new campus and requested the immediate release of funds for this purpose.
Madam Rahilla Hameed Durrani emphasized the importance of higher education for the socio-economic development of Balochistan and urged the HEC to take prompt action to address the financial challenges faced by the universities. She also pointed out the specific difficulties faced by universities in the region and called for tailored solutions.
The Chairman of the HEC assured the delegation of the Commission's commitment to resolving the financial issues. He pledged that the HEC would work with the provincial government and other stakeholders to develop a sustainable financial plan to support the universities in Balochistan.
