"An optional subject of fisheries should be included in the context of Balochistan". Prominent educationist and Project Director for National Curriculum Dr. Maryam Chaghtai addresses the workshop on "Role of Curriculum in National Building" on August 30th, 2022 at University of Gwadar.

Pro Vice-Chancellor University of Gwadar Prof Dr. Syed Manzoor Ahmed, Registrar Dolat Khan, Faculty members and students were present on this occasion.

Dr. Maryam Chughtai responding to students questions in the workshop highlighted the facts that the curriculum is not only a book but also the practical matters concerning teachers and students as end users. Policies are formulated for the curriculum but there is no plan for implementation at the grassroots level. Educational improvement is not possible by filling classrooms, nor through providing facilities. She underscored the need for involvement of end users and all stakeholders while devising policies for improvement of education. In order to improve national education, apart from curriculum, professional training of teachers is also mandatory. Holding teachers accountable is not just the government's responsibility. Students should be aware of their constitutional educational rights.

Dr. Maryam Chughtai further said that science subjects are taught in Urdu in Balochistan to 9th and 10th grade students and the same subjects are taught in English in intermediate. Due to which most of the students choose Arts in Intermediate.  Due to the language barrier in the curriculum, many scientists of Balochistan have chosen the field of arts. "An optional subject of fisheries should be included in the context of Balochistan”.
