Governor Balochistan, Mr. Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, inaugurated a three-day Media Information Literacy (MIL) Training for university faculty members in Quetta. The training was organized by Individualland Pakistan with the support of the European Union, aiming to promote critical media engagement, responsible information sharing, and fact-based communication among university educators.
Faculty members from various universities across Balochistan participated in the training, with the University of Gwadar prominently represented by Muhammad Farooq Haider (Chairman, Department of English), Shama Sulaiman (Chairperson, Department of Economics), Dilawar Khan (Lecturer, Management Sciences), Sangeen Waleed (Lecturer, Chemistry), and Naseer Ahmed (Public Relations Officer).
Addressing the inaugural session, the Governor emphasized that “Media Information Literacy is the need of the hour to guide the younger generation towards critical and responsible thinking instead of misleading narratives.” He appreciated the initiative for equipping university faculty with tools to counter misinformation and promote media literacy among students.
The training concluded with a certificate distribution ceremony held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat, graced by Chief Minister Balochistan, Mir Sarfaraz Bugti, as the chief guest.
During his interaction with faculty members, the Chief Minister termed youth as “the valuable asset and future architects of the nation,” while describing teachers as “the guiding light and beacon of knowledge.” He urged educators to play a constructive role in bridging the gap between the state and youth through research, critical thinking, and responsible communication.
Mir Sarfaraz Bugti highlighted that in the age of social media, “the line between truth and falsehood has become increasingly thin,” emphasizing the importance of editorial integrity, media verification, and ethical journalism. He appreciated the role of university faculty in strengthening social values and promoting national unity through education and awareness.
He further stated that the provincial government is committed to governance reforms and the provision of basic services across Balochistan, stressing that “true progress lies in the fair utilization of resources and the promotion of quality education aligned with modern needs.”
The MIL training successfully concluded with participants reaffirming their commitment to fostering media literacy and a responsible information culture within their respective institutions.
