UG Modernizes Commerce Curriculum at Fourth Board of Studies Meeting to Align with National Education Standards.

The Chairperson of the Department of Commerce, University of Gwadar, convened the Fourth Board of Studies meeting of the Department of Commerce on 6 May 2026 at the Conference Hall of the Pak-China Technical and Vocational Institute (PCT&VI), University of Gwadar. The meeting was chaired by Prof. Dr. Jan Mohammad, Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences, Commerce, and Social Sciences.
The meeting was attended by Mr. Zain ul Abideen, Chairperson, Department of Commerce; Dr. Abdul Majid Nasir, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Turbat; Dr. Mushtaq Badini, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, University of Turbat; and Dr. Kamber Farooq, Assistant Professor, Department of Management Sciences, University of Gwadar, who participated virtually. Faculty members Mr. Mujahid Hussain and Mr. Shah Nawaz from the Department of Commerce also attended and contributed to the academic deliberations.
During the session, the Board thoroughly reviewed agenda items related to the revision, restructuring, and modernization of the BS Commerce curriculum in accordance with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Undergraduate Education Policy 2025. The discussions focused on enhancing academic quality, professional relevance, and alignment with emerging national and international educational standards.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the review and approval of the revised Vision and Mission statements of the Department of Commerce. The Board unanimously endorsed the updated statements, reaffirming the department’s commitment to academic excellence, research advancement, professional ethics, entrepreneurship, and technological integration in commerce education.
The Board extensively discussed the restructuring of the BS Commerce program under the revised HEC framework. Emphasis was placed on maintaining an effective balance between General Education, Major, and interdisciplinary learning components to strengthen students’ analytical, managerial, and practical competencies.
The Board also approved the inclusion and enhancement of specialized courses in key areas of commerce and business education, including Accounting and Finance, Banking and Finance, Accounting, Audit and Assurance, International Trade, and E-Commerce. These additions were considered essential to equip students with contemporary knowledge, market-oriented skills, and professional expertise required in the rapidly evolving business environment.
In line with modern educational requirements, the Board further approved the inclusion of a mandatory course titled “Introduction to Artificial Intelligence,” effective from Fall 2026, aimed at familiarizing students with emerging digital technologies and their applications in commerce and business sectors.
Furthermore, the Board reviewed the semester-wise course distribution and approved the incorporation of practical and skill-oriented components, including a Capstone Project and structured internship guidelines, to strengthen industry exposure, research culture, and graduate employability.
The participants expressed satisfaction over the constructive academic discussions and agreed that the approved revisions would significantly strengthen the academic profile of the Department of Commerce and align its programs with contemporary educational and professional demands.
