University of Gwadar Excels in Balochistan Inter-Universities Sports Festival 2025

The University of Gwadar made a powerful impact in the Balochistan Inter-Universities Sports Festival 2025, organized by the Department of Sports Balochistan, delivering remarkable performances in both football and cricket events and earning recognition across the province. The University of Gwadar’s football team began its journey in the tournament with a spectacular 0–6 victory over the University of Loralai at Ayub Stadium, Quetta. Star player Jehand scored a stunning hat-trick, while Sagheer and Amir contributed with two and one goals respectively, sealing a commanding win in their opening match. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir congratulated the players and appreciated the efforts of Director Sports Mr. Sagheer Naseem for preparing and guiding the team. He noted that this remarkable opening victory had brought immense pride to the university and marked a promising beginning to its football journey. Continuing their momentum, the University of Gwadar triumphed in the quarter-final football match by defeating NUST University with an impressive 3–0 scoreline, where Jehand Fida scored twice and Captain Abdul Rehman added another goal. In the semi-final, UG faced the University of Makran, Panjgur, in a tense encounter that ended goalless in regular time. The match proceeded to a penalty shootout, in which the University of Gwadar emerged victorious, securing a spot in the final for the first time in its history. In the final match, the University of Gwadar exhibited strong determination but fell 3–0 to BUITEMS University after a tough contest. Despite the loss, UG’s football journey was celebrated as a historic milestone, showcasing the team’s discipline, teamwork, and resilience throughout the tournament. Parallel to its football success, the University of Gwadar’s cricket team also made headlines by defeating the University of Turbat by 27 runs in their opening match. UG posted 128 runs for 6 wickets in 20 overs, highlighted by Nazeer’s brilliant 66-run innings, while Najeebullah claimed 3 wickets for just 11 runs. Turbat University was bowled out for 101 runs in 19.3 overs. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir praised the team’s dedication and teamwork, emphasizing that such performances enhance the confidence and spirit of young athletes. At the Prize Distribution Ceremony held in Quetta, Director Sports Mr. Sagheer Naseem, along with the Captain and Vice-Captain of the UG Football Team, proudly received the Runner-up Trophy from Minister for Sports, Madam Meena Majeed, recognizing the University of Gwadar’s historic achievement in the 2025 Sports Festival. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir commended the players for their sportsmanship and discipline, stating, “Our players have demonstrated exceptional commitment and teamwork, bringing honor to the University of Gwadar. These achievements mark the beginning of a bright sporting future for our institution.”
