The Governor of Balochistan and Chancellor of the University of Gwadar, Jafar Khan Mandokhel, emphasized that to ensure effective governance, universities must prioritize transparency and accountability in financial and other matters. He also stressed the importance of implementing both internal and external audit procedures to eliminate financial irregularities. Each Vice Chancellor is responsible for ensuring the timely conduct of statutory bodies' meetings and examinations. No negligence will be tolerated in this regard. He expressed these views while presiding over the second Senate meeting of the University of Gwadar at the Governor House in Quetta.
The Senate meeting was attended by Provincial Minister for Education Raheela Hamid Khan Durrani, Provincial Secretary for Higher Education Saleh Mohammad Baloch, Vice Chancellor of the University of Gwadar Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir, Vice Chancellor of the University of Balochistan Prof. Dr. Zahoor Ahmad Bazai, Principal Secretary to the Governor of Balochistan Hashim Khan Ghilzai, Pro-Vice Chancellor of the University of Gwadar Prof. Dr. Syed Manzoor Ahmed, and all Senate members, including Dr. Dost Muhammad Baloch, Dostain Jamaldini, S. Mushtaq Shah, Yar Jan Abdul Samad, Dr. Jan Muhammad, Dr. Mohib Ullah, Dr. Kamber Farooq, Dr. Rabia Aslam, and Dolat Khan.
In his remarks during the second Senate meeting, Governor Jafar Khan Mandokhel praised the new proposals presented by the members, which would guide the creation of a strategic plan for the university. He stated that although, in public sector universities, the Vice Chancellor is responsible for overseeing administrative matters, educational programs, and research activities, the Chancellor plays an important role in overseeing policies and decisions, providing strategic guidance to the governing body, and leading the university at important events.
Governor Mandokhel further noted that it is encouraging that the University of Gwadar is well-positioned, in terms of academic and research focus, to make significant progress in the fields of blue economy and marine sciences in the country. He emphasized that improving research activities requires collaboration among all public sector universities in Balochistan, particularly in research, to share knowledge and experiences and avoid repetitive focus on the same topics.
Among other agenda items, the Senate resolved to approve the revised actual budget estimates for the years 2023-24 and 2024-25, as well as the audit statements of the university for the year 2023-24.
At the end of the meeting, the Governor of Balochistan distributed commemorative shields to the Senate members.
