A national literary seminar was organized at the University of Gwadar on the occasion of the centenary birth anniversary of the renowned Balochi writer Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi.

A one-day national literary seminar on the life and works of the distinguished Balochi writer, poet, researcher, fiction writer, and linguist Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi was jointly organized by the Idara Farogh‑e‑Qaumi Zaban, Islamabad, and the University of Gwadar to mark his centenary year. The seminar was chaired by the Vice Chancellor of the University of Gwadar, Prof. Dr. Abdul Razzaq Sabir. Special guests included Prof. Dr. Muhammad Saleem Mazhar, Director General of Idara Farogh-e-Qaumi Zaban; Prof. Dr. Abdul Saboor Baloch, Dean at the University of Turbat; and Dr. Abdul Rauf Rafiqui, Director of the Iqbal Academy Pakistan, Lahore. Among the paper presenters were Dr. Rahim Bakhsh Mehr from the University of Gwadar; Dr. Zia-ur-Rehman Baloch from Allama Iqbal Open University Islamabad; Dr. Ghafoor Shad and Prof. Fazal Baloch from the University of Turbat; Mehboob Khan Bugti; and Tariq Bin Azad from Karachi. In his presidential address, the Vice Chancellor stated that Syed Zahoor Shah Hashmi’s invaluable contributions to the promotion and research of Balochi language and literature will always be remembered. He emphasized that such literary seminars play an important role in raising awareness among the younger generation about the preservation of language, culture, and heritage. Guest speakers highlighted in detail Hashmi’s scholarly and literary stature, his research contributions, and his role in the development of the Balochi language. Scholars and writers expressed their views, describing his poetry, fiction, and linguistic research as a valuable treasure of Balochi literature. Research papers presented at the seminar analyzed his literary style, command of language, and research contributions in a modern context, calling him a guiding beacon of Balochi literature. The seminar was attended by Regional Director Majid Hussain of Allama Iqbal Open University Gwadar, organizers of the RCDC Gwadar, scholars of Hashmi’s work, as well as deans, department heads, directors, faculty members, administrative officers, students, and media representatives from the University of Gwadar. On the occasion, local singers Sameer Rahim and Didag Akbar entertained the audience with performances of Hashmi’s poetry. At the conclusion of the ceremony, the Vice Chancellor thanked all distinguished guests, speakers, and participants, and stated that the University of Gwadar will continue organizing such academic and literary programs in the future to promote national languages and cultural heritage. He particularly appreciated the participation of the heads of Idara Farogh-e-Qaumi Zaban Islamabad and Iqbal Academy Pakistan Lahore.
